2025 New Student Dance Performance: Creativity and Multicultural Identity
Bandung, 17 November 2025 - The Faculty of Arts and Design Education held the 2025 Freshmen Dance Showcase as an event designed to appreciate and present the creativity of the newest generation of aspiring dance artists. Organized in two sessions from 09.00 to 11.20 and from 15.00 to 17.20 the event served as a platform for freshmen to perform regional dance compositions, demonstrating their readiness to enter the academic sphere of performing arts. The program proceeded solemnly and in an orderly manner, attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design Education, Dr. Dody Mohamad Kholid, S.Pd., M.Sn.; the Head of the Dance Study Program, Dr. Heni Komalasari, M.Pd.; dance lecturers; active students; parents of incoming students; and alumni.
The event began with an introduction by the master of ceremonies, followed by the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya,” which served as a gesture of respect for national symbolism. A prayer was then delivered in a concise and earnest manner. These opening sequences marked the commencement of an academic activity that upholds discipline, ethics, and the ceremonial value of the arts within higher education.

The opening remarks were delivered by the Dean, Dr. Dody Mohamad Kholid, S.Pd., M.Sn., who emphasized the significance of artistic showcases as a formative space for developing character, academic identity, and creative capacity. He highlighted that the cultural diversity of the freshmen coming from various regions across Indonesia should become a central strength in creating innovative yet tradition-based artistic works. The Head of the Dance Study Program, Dr. Heni Komalasari, M.Pd., followed with a statement underscoring that this activity is not merely a welcoming agenda but also an introductory platform to instill professionalism in dance, including discipline in practice, artistic ethics, and collaborative work across cultural backgrounds.

The main program featured freshmen presenting dance compositions representing their regions of origin, including West Java, West Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, Kalimantan, and North Sumatra. Each group showcased choreography that reflected the cultural characteristics of their respective regions from traditional floor patterns to stylized movement ornamentations adapted to the technical capacity of novice performers. Despite being new to the academic environment, the participants demonstrated dedication in presenting structured works, evident in aspects of musicality, expression, and costume use, thereby representing Indonesia’s cultural diversity on a single stage.
Following the performances, the committee awarded certificates and plaques to composers, mentors, and supporting contributors involved in the creative process. This recognition symbolized the institution’s appreciation for internal and external collaborators who contributed to the event’s success, particularly in musical composition, artistic direction, and production management.

The event concluded with the recitation of the 2025 cohort chant, symbolizing unity and the collective identity of the incoming students.
