Fibers of Struggle: The METANOIA Exhibition at Search Gallery
Bandung, December 2025 – Search Gallery, Jl. Pagermaneh, Bandung, hosted an exhibition showcasing the works of young crafts artists from the Class of 2022, representing the Applied Textile and Batik Craft program as well as the Experimental Textile and Batik Craft program. Titled “METANOIA: Crisis of the World in a Personal Frame,” the exhibition presented works by Generation Z that reflect their contemporary realities, with a particular focus on environmental, political, and self-development issues.

The exhibited works articulate deep concerns over environmental degradation and its far-reaching impacts on political, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions. The participating artists critically engaged with prevailing discourses on the declining quality of the natural environment and the erosion of social awareness regarding ecological responsibility. Through the expressive language of fiber art, they conveyed a longing for balance and harmony between humanity and nature.
Beyond ecological concerns, the exhibition also foregrounded themes of self-development. Heightened awareness of mental health inspired works that reinterpreted personal relationships with close others. Each piece of fabric and interwoven thread functioned not merely as a medium, but as a therapeutic process giving voice to suppressed emotions, facilitating healing, and affirming new beginnings.

Underlying these works is the pulse of youthful struggle, embodying anger, perseverance, and a resilient spirit of resistance. Although the exhibition has concluded, the intellectual and creative momentum of the artists continues to unfold. METANOIA thus emerges not simply as an exhibition, but as a liminal space a process of reweaving consciousness that binds personal experiences to broader social and spiritual landscapes.
The exhibition was curated and led by Asep Mohamad Golly Nurjamil, and was accompanied by a series of supporting programs, including a Chinese Knots macramé workshop, a book discussion, a session on Studio-Based Batik Colet Learning led by Adit, and a presentation on Nusantara Ornamental Motifs by Faiha. The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Dean II, Dr. Bandi Sobandi, M.Pd., along with course instructor Zakiah Pawitan, M.Ds. The exhibition took place from 20–22 December 2024, from 09:30 to 17:00. Participating artists included Andini Febriani, Annisa Nurul K., Asep M. Golly N., Awanda Aulia M., Elisha M., Fadhiya Aini T., Hasela Nur Fadilah, Kiyasari Zahra, M. Fadhlan S., Oktavia N., Putri Agung, Ratu Salma, Yola Permatasari, and Zikri Akbar.

By uniting the global crisis narrative with an introspective journey of self-development, METANOIA functions as a reflective space for young generations to reweave their consciousness, while simultaneously articulating hope for a more balanced and harmonious future.
