Orchestra Symphoni Bumi Siliwangi (OSBs) Shines at Sabuga
Bandung, 19 November 2025 - The Bumi Siliwangi Orchestra (OsBS), a student talent and performance unit under the Music Education Study Program at the Faculty of Art and Design Education (FPSD), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), once again demonstrated its artistic excellence through an exceptional performance at Sabuga Auditorium, Bandung. The ensemble was featured in the “Abdi Nagri Menyulam Hari #2” Civil Servant Development Program and the commemoration of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) Day, held in conjunction with National Health Day celebrations.

The event, attended by provincial officials, invited guests, and members of the public, gained added significance with the presence of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi. During the program, OsBS performed a curated selection of musical works composed by the Governor himself pieces that the orchestra had previously showcased at UPI’s Dies Natalis celebration, receiving notable appreciation.
According to event organizers, the invitation extended to OsBS was a direct acknowledgment of the orchestra’s musical quality and professionalism, particularly their ability to elevate the atmosphere of official state events. The performance also provided a platform for UPI students to showcase their capabilities on a distinguished public stage.

Under the musical direction of Fensy Sella, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer in the Music Education Study Program, the orchestra delivered a technically and artistically compelling performance. The arrangements by Dr. Henry Virgan, M.Pd. added depth and nuance to the repertoire, highlighting the ensemble’s dynamic range and interpretative maturity. The collaboration between students and faculty underscored UPI’s structured approach to music training from technical rehearsal to interpretive refinement and stage readiness.
Audience members responded enthusiastically to the orchestra’s precision, cohesion, and expressive delivery. Despite being a student ensemble, OsBS performed with a level of discipline and artistic clarity often associated with professional orchestras. Their meticulous preparation, ensemble unity, and musical sensitivity were evident throughout the showcase.

Beyond its significance as a student achievement, the orchestra’s participation in a formal provincial event also reflects the strengthening of collaboration between academic institutions and regional government. The performance provided valuable real-world experience for the students and demonstrated the role of higher education in advancing public cultural initiatives.
UPI welcomed the opportunity, viewing it as a meaningful model for student development through direct engagement in public-serving artistic activities. With continued support from the West Java Provincial Government, the university hopes to expand performance opportunities and contribute further to the cultural landscape of the region.
